Last nights López-Nussa Trio show at Hugh's Room and as part of JazzFM91's 2nd Annual World Music Festival was, well, moving. It was one of those performances that you knew was something special and everyone there knew it.
I have to admit, I had never heard of the band before being asked by JazzFM to shoot the event. The band, which features brothers Harold López-Nussa and Ruy Adrián López-Nussa, from Havana, along with Toronto bassist Roberto Riveron, did two sets of Cuban flavored jazz that brought Hugh's Room to their feet.
Despite lost luggage and just arriving from France (and still on GMT time) they were absolutely brilliant. I wasn't familiar with the music either, but it didn't matter, it was beyond boundaries and borders to be something else.
